Share the Plate

Contribute to Our Mission


The fellowship shares half of undesignated donations received during our Sunday services with a community organization or charity that does work consistent with our UU values and mission, organizations involved in promoting community services and social justice.

For the month of April, we have selected the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center as our Share the Plate partner.

The mission and goals are multiple at the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center. First, they want to educate the general public about Haudenosaunee culture specifically, and Native American history in general. They are visited by summer camps, various summer education programs, and they have hosted history/anthropology classes from various schools of higher learning as well as the average Adirondack summer visitors.

They wish to create educational experiences so that the visitor, teacher and student may acquire the knowledge needed to better understand the history, culture, contemporary realities, and the potential futures of Native Nations. Another goal of the Center is directed toward educating the public about the Land Ethic of the Haudenosaunee, and other environmental sensitivities.

They present information about Native cultures, and function as a place where traditional values, philosophies, and sensitivities can be reaffirmed. They vehemently stress the importance of maintaining oral tradition coupled with written history for cultural continuity.

To donate to the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center, mail a check to the UU fellowship (4 Palmer St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901) and indicate “Six Nations” on the memo line. You can also text “GIVE” to 518-594-8008.
