Share the Plate

Contribute to Our Mission


The fellowship shares half of undesignated donations received during our Sunday services with a community organization or charity that does work consistent with our UU values and mission, organizations involved in promoting community services and social justice.

For the month of December, we have selected The Interfaith Food Shelf as our Share the Plate partner.

The Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf was established over 40 years ago by the Interfaith Council of Plattsburgh and Clinton County. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Plattsburgh was one of the founding congregations and has continuously supported this community service as one of our social justice projects with donations of financial and volunteer time from our members.
 

The Interfaith Food Shelf functions as a a safety net, not a continuous source of food for people. Over one half our clients request food only once or twice a year.
 

The Food Shelf is an all-volunteer organization, with over 90% of all monies going towards the purchase of food. Over 70% of support for the food shelf comes from the local community. This service would not be possible with that local support!
 

Housed within Plattsburgh United Methodist Church on Beekman St., Plattsburgh, the Interfaith Food Shelf provides immediate relief in the form of three days’ worth of food to people in need up to six times a year, as needed. It also provides nutritional awareness to improve food planning. Additionally, the food shelf takes action to raise community awareness of this problem, and advocates for changes in government policy.

To donate to The Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf, mail a check to the UU fellowship (4 Palmer St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901) and indicate “Food shelf” on the memo line. You can also text “GIVE” to 518-594-8008.
