Truly in This Together — Coming Together as UUs

Locally and nationally, we UUs are planning to build in extra supports in the weeks ahead.

First, here’s a message from your Unitarian Universalist Association:

“We know these times are full of anxiety on so many levels. As religious communities, our responsibility in uncertain times is always to move deliberately, grounded in our values and in relationship with the key leaders, partners, and movements who share them.

“We must discern and strategize about how we can best leverage our resources, our relationships, and our power to defend democracy and keep one another safe amid instability and fear. We must do all this with a loving presence and faithful commitment to building a future where everyone is safe, free, and thriving.

We Are a Sanctuary People: An Election Message from UUA President the Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt.

Here are some resources the UUA is offering all of us. Please explore them if this feels helpful.

Locally, for now, our doors will be open:

November 3 and 10, 10:30 a.m.: Pre- and post-election worship services, led by Rev. Nicoline (with stress-busting activities offered by the Connect in Community team on November 3.)

November 6, 3-4:30 p.m.: Making Space for What Is — an informal, yet spirit-nourishing gathering, for making space for what is, the day following Election Day.

November 12, 1:30-2:45 p.m.: Making Space for What Is … Online. Rev. Nicoline invites you to this second in a series of informal, yet spiritually nourishing gatherings for sharing how things are with your hearts, a week after the election. Online by Zoom.

We will announce more activities as the need becomes clearer.

Finally, some closing thoughts from the Rev. Ashley Horan, UUA Vice President for Programs and Ministries:

“You and your communities are doing the sacred and incredibly difficult work of meaning- making in the presence of profound pain and uncertainty. We are grateful for your witness, your care, and your commitment to our Unitarian Universalist faith.

“We know that it can be easier to hold it all when we hold it together and finding the way forward is safer when we plan ahead. You are not alone in these fearful and deeply uncertain times — are truly in this together.

And please, stay in touch. Let us know what you need, or what you’d like to offer. We’ll be here.
