UPDATE: Our Newcomer Sponsorship

(7/23/24) The Plattsburgh Refugee Organization (PRO), a program of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Plattsburgh’s immigration squad, has wonderful news to share with you. We have been matched with a family from Somalia, including a boy of high school age and a girl of middle school age. We’re sure we will all give them a warm welcome. We can expect them at any time within a four-month time frame.

Plattsburgh Refugee Organization is certified by Welcome Corps and is also mentored by IRIS (Integrated Refugee and Immigration Services). The philosophy of these organizations is to offer support so that the family can integrate into Plattsburgh and gain independence as soon as possible. These Newcomers have been screened by the US Department of State and Homeland Security and have a pathway to citizenship.

What can you do to help? If you know of employment opportunities, housing options, or have household goods/ furniture to donate, please let us know. We will know soon when they arrive – and we need to be ready for them.

If you have questions, or wish to contribute in some way, please contact us at love@uuplattsburgh.org.
